The Brain Drain Project Update
Well hello Brain Drainers!!
Welcome to 2018. I just wanted to post a quick update on what's been happening so far this year. 2018 is already looking super exciting as we have a couple of projects on the go. Our mini fundraiser and campaign we have going at the moment is the #BrainsMatter Campaign. I wracked my brain (Sorry for the Pun) trying to think of a different way to capture peoples eye and attention when it came to hydrocephalus awareness. With this in mind myself together with my brother John came up with a Zombie logo in hope that she would do just that. I mean who thinks brains matter more than zombies right? It also keeps the campaign lighthearted while getting people to ask the question. "What is your tee shirt all about"
And to me also the hashtag #BrainsMatter is about more than hydrocephalus awareness. It's about the mental struggle of living with the condition for it's sufferers and their families. Hydrocephalus can be quite traumatic at times and I think it's important that we can create a safe space in which we can talk about how that makes us feel without the fear of judgement from other people. For all our experiences are different even though we live with the same condition.
For anyone that is interested in a #BrainsMatter tee, I'v attached the links. They come in both adult and children's sizes so please feel free to check it out. For those that may not have the money for a t-shirt. I have uploaded a copy of the Brains Matter Poster! Please feel free to print and take selfies to help spread the word of the campaign. We would love to see your pics!

Of course our other major project we have happening this year is The Adventures Of Hydro Girl Issue 3!! The comic is looking stunning and we are hoping for an April release date. However, as we all know hydrocephalus can be a pain in the butt when it comes to trying to organise things. I will be going in to hospital on the 19th of March for a whole week so it may change the outcomes of when we hope to release the next issue. Fingers crossed it doesn't because we are both so excited to show you the comic.
With that being said Hydro Girl just had her first comic expo for the year over the last weekend. It went really well and we are loving getting out in the community talking about hydrocephalus, Hydro Girl and her importance in promoting positive representation of people with disabilities. Especially with younger children. Educating our young people and setting that example of inclusion and acceptance of all people is something that we truly believe in and it's really exciting to be able to do that through Hydro Girl.
We have also booked our largest event to date. We will be attending this years SupaNova Expo. This is a really big deal for us and we can't wait to see how it all goes. Please keep an eye out on our facebook page for more Expo dates where you can come and have the chance to talk to us!!
So what else has been happening? The first Melbourne HSA meet was held on the 18th of Feb. A picnic was organised so that we could get together and just spend some time getting to know each other. Although the numbers were low it was a great opportunity to just relax and have a bit of fun sharing hydro stories. These events are really important in my opinion as it's so easy to feel alone when living with hydrocephalus. It gives us a chance to feel like we belong and be ourselves. Massive thank you to Andrew and Erin for organising the event. You did a great job. The next HSA meeting will be held on the 6th of May at Hawthorn Library from 2pm-4pm. If you want to know more about the Hydrocephalus Support Association and how they might be able to help you, please visit their website. https://hydrocephalus.org.au/
Well, I know I'm probably forgetting things. I must apologise. My head has been a bit all over the place but I just wanted to let you guys know what's been happeing. It's going to be a great year. Until next time. I hope you are all happy, healthy and pressure free.
Much love,
Sarah Brain Drain xx
