Sarah Brain Drain Update
Hey everyone! Long time no blog. I’m sorry for my absence but as we all know, living with hydrocephalus can sometimes be a very challenging and frustrating thing to do. My last 3 weeks I have been back in hospital with another blockage of my shunt. After all these years of only ever really having one full revision it seems that someone out there or up there depending on your beliefs is setting the challenge for me, a test if you will. I hope I’m passing.
So I also experienced seizures with this last blocked shunt. Let me tell you it has FREAKED me OUT!!! I don’t like my body being so unpredictable and have a hard time not stressing that I could have another one at any time. If any of you guys out there have some experience with this stuff, it would be great to hear from you, either through this website or the PBD facebook page.
Now, enough of the depressing stuff. My time in hospital was not without its fun, myself and my family just don’t work that way. Pretty much straight away my Dad started drawing all over the white board in my room and because I couldn’t join the fun because I wasn’t aloud to get out of bed, I came up with the idea that we should play Where’s Wally. Every day my Dad would put a Where’s Wally on the board for the family to find. This didn’t satisfy me, it needed to be bigger so as the nurses would come in to check in on me they would also have to find Wally. Then the Doctors and their residents. Wally went for 2 weeks and then I got moved to a bay. No BOARD!!! Never mind, Dad grabs his white board markers and starts drawing on the windows. I got to choose a couple of different cartoon characters a day and Wally was back! We filled up the window and because one of my resident doctors was really good, Wally ended up all over the room. On nurses help buttons, curtain railing and parts of the beds! I’ve been told that our artwork is still up on the window. I hope it makes someone else smile like I did.
I have some pretty cool stuff happening at the moment. I’m trying to get our PBD tees printed and also working on a fundraiser for the brain foundation here in Australia. I’m in a band called Calling Utopia and it would be great to do a show! For all you awesome people out there that can’t get to the show, we will hopefully be streaming live via Ustream. We’ve never done that before so the band is really excited.
Well I do believe I kept my promise of a shorter blog! All my pics from my last hospital adventure are on my facebook page.
Until next time my awesome Brain Drainers, stay awesome, stay positive and as I like to say, KEEP ROCKING! XXXX
